Bear Valley is a residential community and ski area located in the California Sierra
south of Lake Tahoe and north of Yosemite. Bear Valley Residents, Inc. is a non-profit
organization formed for the benefit of Bear Valley property owners and to administer the
Covenants, Conditions, and Restrictions of the New Subdivision. BVRI owns and maintains
two beaches at Bear Lake, publishes a periodic newsletter for members, and represents the
interests of Bear Valley residents on a variety of community and local governmental
issues.
BVRI BULLETINS:
-
The BVRI Board met with representatives of the Bear Valley
Village Partners and the Bear Valley Water District on August 29 to discuss
the sewer capacity issue. The BVVP people said they need to see progress on
the sewer capacity within 6 months. The BVRI Board voted to encourage BVWD
to explore solutions immediately. The BVWD Board has called a special
meeting at 1pm on Saturday, September 4, at the Water District building to
discuss possible capacity studies and land acquisition.
-
Alpine County Director of Public Works Brian Peters will make
a presentation on long range financial planning for county roads at the CSA
meeting on September 15, 2pm, at the County Services Building. County
revenues, especially timber receipts, are declining and we need to start
planning for the future.
-
Due to overwhelming opposition from the members, the BVRI
Board has voted to oppose the disk golf course in the par course area. The
item has been removed from the agenda for the General Meeting on Sept. 5
(see below).
-
Bear break-ins are occurring again at homes in Bear Valley.
State Fish & Game says they will come up and try to trap the bear. They also
say that the most effective prevention method is electric wire, which has
been found by beekeepers to be about the only thing that keeps bears away
from the honey. You can make your house less attractive to bears (see the
essay about bears below), but a house that's vacant for a long time may
still be a candidate for a break-in.
-
BVRI President Dave Morley hosted a meeting of
representatives of Lake Alpine Water Company ratepayers and LAWC. The
consensus of the meeting was unanimous support for a fairer water rate
structure designed by John Dralla. LAWC will now propose this rate structure
to the PUC, with the support of the community.
-
The annual General Meeting will be September 5th, 4pm, at the
Perry Walther Building.
-
Memorial service for Greg Peterson was held at the Bear
Valley Lodge on June 12. A fund has been established at Bank of
America to help the family. Send donations to Bank of America, Peterson
Assistance Fund, P.O. Box 710, Arnold, CA 95223.
-
Julio Guerra, BV Water District Manager, met with state staff
on November 30. He achieved a big step toward eliminating the tertiary
treatment requirement. Click here to see his press
release. For more information go to the District's website at
www.bearvalleywater.org. The BVRI Committee to study Water District
matters has issued a report; click here to see.
-
The BVRI scholarship program for the Bear Valley School has
been discontinued, in favor of a capital purchase program to buy needed
items for the school. We're starting with the purchase of a digital camera,
and inviting the community to look at the school's wish list
to see if there
are things there that you already have or would be willing to contribute
for. Tom and Jeri Fraser saw the list and came up with NINE microscopes!
- BVRI maintains the beaches at Bear Lake for its members. The beaches may be
available for group or private functions if certain conditions are met. Click
here for information on the beaches.
- The Board has approved a one page summary of the CC&R's and Design Standards.
