BEAUTIFICATION OF BEAR VALLEY. We live in and visit Bear Valley because it is a uniquely beautiful and natural place. We need to do all we can to keep it as natural and safe as possible. Please inspect your home and surrounding property to determine if improvements can be made to make the setting natural. Some suggestions:

Clean up fallen trees and debris. In addition to aesthetic considerations, fallen trees and debris represent a fire danger to the entire community. In general, all needles and leaves must be cleaned from the roof, there must be a screen on the chimney outlet, all dead or dying wood adjacent to or overhanging any building must be removed, any limb within 10 feet of the chimney outlet must be removed, all dead limbs on trees must be removed to 6 feet from the ground and your property must be cleared of flammable material to 30 feet from the building or to the property line, whichever is closer. Consult with the Bear Valley Fire Department with questions regarding fire safety; notify the fire department of combustible debris you observe on common areas or forest service land which may be a threat to the community.

Shield your outdoor lighting and consider reduced wattage lights to avoid projection of light from your property onto adjoining properties, streets etc.

Store your snowmobiles out of sight and cover them with brown tarps.

For the safety of you, your family and neighbors, observe the 25 MPH speed limit in Bear Valley village.

Remember not to park campers/RVs, boats, trailers, large trucks, detached camper tops, etc. within the residential area (CC & R provision).

Consider sowing native wild flowers around your property

CLEANUP WEEKEND. There will be two dumpsters in parking lot C on July 18th and 19th. Acceptable materials are: household garbage, metals, plastic, paper, treated wood waste. Unacceptable materials are: household hazardous waste, tires, rocks, dirt, cement, stumps and commercial construction debris. Set any large appliances(washers, dryers, etc.) beside the dumpsters - they will be recycled by Bear Valley Disposal. Use the burn pile for yard waste. We encourage you to carry a paper sack when you are out for walks and pick up things that surface as the snow melts and throughout the summer.

BURN PILE. The burn pile is at the parking area near the ball field and is for combustible yard waste only - please do not leave any construction debris, sofas, refrigerators, rugs, or household garbage. The burn pile is only for debris from cleaning up outside your home. The burn pile will open when the snow melts but will be closed June 22 through July 18 and August 24 through September 12.

BEAR VALLEY MUSIC FESTIVAL

CELEBRATING 30 YEARS OF MUSIC

The Bear Valley Music Festival, celebrating its 30th anniversary season this July 25-August 9, offers excellent classical, jazz and popular music. From Judy Collins to a west coast symphonic premiere, to our free Children’s Concert, the Festival offers music to please all tastes and people of all ages.

Music Director, Carter Nice, returns for his 15th summer, to lead the Festival’s 68 member orchestra plus international solo artists through a diverse repertoire. Rick Dougherty will stage two performances of Verdi’s Rigoletto, sung in Italian, with beloved returning stars Evelyn de la Rosa, David Cox, Jon Garrison, Greg Stapp and Doug Nagel. Act by act scenarios will be presented from the stage to assist with following the tragic plot.

New this summer are: a fully reserved tent floor seating plan; a Swing Band concert with Dance Party featuring San Francisco’s Mondo Combo; a Community Beach Barbecue,

July 28 to welcome performers, roast marshmallows and sing around a campfire; Locals Night, August 5 for F-R-E-E-W-A-Y Philharmonic, in appreciation of 30 years of support with 50% priced tickets for BV residents with local identification; 3rd Annual ‘Swing for Music’ Golf Tournament and Brunch, July 12th at Sequoia Woods in Arnold; Gala Auction Day, August 8 hosted by Channel 10’s Jennifer Smith and our very own Raffle monger, Randy Hanvelt.

The Bear Valley Music Festival is pleased to announce that this summer a dream will come true: the Board will sponsor its fledgling music student scholarship program to the Festival. The Lloyd Bridges Scholarship Fund has been established for contributions to this new endeavor. Call for details and with names of students who might wish to apply, ages 13-17 and freshman and sophomores in college.

The Calaveras Wine Association is our official Festival sponsor and will present a lively and informative booth featuring award-winning local wines. Commemorative wine glasses, wine tasting and wine will be for sale as part of the Festival’s fundraising efforts, along with many other enticing merchandise items, art prints, shirts, etc.

The Festival urgently needs housing donations for performers and production staff, as well as your continued financial support, auction donation items, volunteer help, new Guild members, and frequent flyer miles if you have any to trade for Festival benefits. Please call the Office at 800-458-1618 for appropriate donation forms.

Individual tickets range from $10 to $32; Season tickets and Lodging/ticket packages with the Lodge at Bear Valley are also available. Discounted student tickets are available on selected nights. Please phone 800-458-1618 for all ticket details or visit www.bearvalleymusic.org.

BEAR LAKE BEACH. The Bear Lake beach is not expected to be snow-free until after the July 4th weekend. Work was done in the fall that should have the "kids area" mud free after the snow melts. New buoys designate the no boat zone. Efforts to further educate the public that Bear Lake is for members of BVRI and their guests only will be ongoing, with particular emphasis during music festivals.

ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW COMMITTEE REPORT. Two new homes are undergoing architectural review. One, located on Avalanche Road, has completed preliminary review and is in final-plans preparation. The other, located at the intersection of "upper" Snowshoe Road and Bloods Ridge Road, is still in the preliminary review cycle.

With the heavy snowfall of this past winter, the ARC is expecting that homeowners will have more structural and deck damage than normal. Inspect your home as soon as you can

so that repairs can be made before next year’s winter.

Homeowners in subdivisions 1-9 (all but "old" Bear Valley and the condominiums) are reminded that any physical alteration to a home must be reviewed and approved by the ARC (and the Alpine County Building and Planning Department in most cases) prior to construction. This includes exterior repaint/restain, reroofs, and deck modifications. In most cases of exterior changes your adjacent neighbors must be notified by the ARC prior to approval. ARC members are Ron Murphy, Chair (408-246-2874), Robin LaRoy, Clem Soga and Terry Woodrow.

HSMF The High Sierra Music Festivals will take place in Bear Valley from July 2 through July 5 and from September 3 through September 6.

WINE, ART & BEER FEST - Mark your calendars! The date is July 18,1998, the time is 11AM to 5 PM, the place is the large parking lot area behind the Red Dog Lodge, and the event is -- the 15th ANNUAL BEAR VALLEY WINE, ART & BEER FEST.
