2025 Candidates for BVRI Board of Directors

Elections for the BVRI Board of Directors will occur in February. One 2024 Class A or Class B BVRI member from each house/lot owner is eligible to vote. The person designated as the “Primary Owner” when you signed up for your 2024 membership will receive an email to vote via our online Election Buddy system.

There are five board seats up for election in 2025, including one vacancy. Please see the five prospective candidates’ statements below.

Cory Carr (new candidate)

I would like to be considered for the BVRI Board.  My parents, Michael and Elizabeth Coonan, purchased the cabin at 11 Bloods Ridge Road 40 years ago this year.  They are both now deceased and I have taken sole ownership of the property as my second home. Bear Valley continues to be a big part of my family’s life.  We enjoy hiking, downhill and cross-country skiing, tennis, mountain biking, the music festival, the views, etc.

My past Board experience includes:

  • The Walnut Creek Racquet Club for which I was Leagues’ Coordinator.
  • The Walnut Creek Open Space Foundation where my responsibilities included WCOSF newsletter editor.
  • The Walnut Creek Chamber of Commerce. I was not on the board, but rather as an employee was responsible for scheduling board meetings, taking and distributing minutes and planning & attending mixers and events.

I recently retired from my position as Head of International Property at Telstra, an Australian telecommunications company and now look forward to spending even more time at Bear Valley. I believe I could be of value to the Board as a committed member, interested in getting involved and giving back to the community which has given so much to me and my family.

Curt Wozniak (Incumbent)

Judy and I bought our home in Bear Valley in 1999.  We came for the beauty, unique character of the town and, of course, the year round outdoor activities.  Our three children have grown up in Bear Valley, and now with spouses and their children, continue to love Bear Valley.

I would like to see Bear Valley continue to develop as a family oriented, outdoor recreation treasure.  For the last 12 years, I have enjoyed serving the community on the BVRI Board, and for the last nine as Treasurer.   BVRI must continue to be a positive resource for the community by enforcing our CC&R’s , encouraging community participation, promoting sound development, and being a voice for all our residents.   I am hopeful my experience as a former CEO, Board Member and my love of outdoors, can help the BVRI fulfill its mission.

Jean Paul Derouin (incumbent)

Hello All! My name is Jean Paul Derouin. My wife and I live in Monterey, but are here almost every weekend in the winter, and often in the summer. I work as the Sales Director for the DGDG group in San Jose. I am currently serving on the board for BVRI and am responsible for the beach upkeep and maintenance. I have been serving on the board for the last 6 years. It has been our good fortune in conjunction with BVRI to make some great improvements over the last few years, adding new recycling and waste cans, and swim deck improvements. Just last month we installed new volleyball poles and professional sand for this coming spring. Next year we also have plans for a new boat rack system. So, I would like your help in re-electing me for another term, so that I can keep the lake work up and the improvements coming! Thanks for your consideration and Vote!

Laura Worthington-Forbes (incumbent)

I was first introduced to Bear Valley more than 40 years ago at the invitation of a friend at UC Davis. The beauty, magic and mystique captured my heart then and has since captured my family’s heart as well. It was the BV Race Team friendships, winter /summer experiences and outdoor active life we enjoyed that led us to our first purchase in Bear Valley. So many memories, friends & experiences later, we are more enamored today by our mountain life, enduring allure & precious friendships than we were then.

I have been serving on the Board for the last three years in various capacities & on a number of committees, all with the intent of applying my professional skills as an environmental & land entitlement consultant to further/serve the needs of the Bear Valley community, including:

  • Creating a more resilient community that can respond with nimble speed to environmental events (wildfire, droughts, impacts of climate change)
  • Creating a community of more initiative-taking environmental stewardship & vested responsibility for BV resources
  • I would love to continue to serve on the Board to assist in these pursuits!

Randy Mancini (incumbent)

Hello my name is Randy Mancini and I am running for re-election to serve on the BVRI board. Me and my wife Karol have owned a 2nd home in Bear Valley since 2000 and are very active up here in winter and summer.

As a current board member, I have a strong understanding of the needs and balance of the community. I support proper forest management policies to help protect us from potential wide fires. Understand the balance between motorized and non-motorized transportation during the winter months and have helped in the past mitigate parking, storage and over snow transportation. Have been more involved the past few seasons on the beach maintenance and improvement projects and look forward to continuing to improve our beaches and facilities.

Professionally I previously owned Mancini’s Sleepworld, a bedding retailer throughout the Bay Area. I sold a controlling interest in this business back in 2020 and now serve as chairman of the board. Personally, I have been married for 39 years and we have two adult sons who are both married and have five grandkids between them. Fun fact. Don’t be surprised if you see me in a tractor clearing snow on the roads or parking lots during a snowstorm. I partnered with Tim Schimke and we have the County contract for snow removal within our community. I hope to earn your vote.
