Bear Valley Submits Application to the Firewise Program
Great news! Our community is making commendable progress in reducing wildfire risk. Bear Valley has completed its application to the Firewise USA® program to become a certified Firewise community. Many thanks go to Bear Valley community members Kimi Johnson, Terry Woodrow, Mike Mee, Garrick Hileman, Deputy Florence, and BVRI board members Matthew Johnson and Eric Jung for their time and efforts researching, meeting, and completing the application. In addition, everyone in Bear Valley who has worked on lot thinning, dead tree removal and creating defensible space deserves a round of applause, as we hear that our community already meets most of the stringent criteria.
The Firewise working group is moving forward with the submission, which includes a three-year plan focused on:
- Education and Outreach
- Home Hardening
- Defensible Space and Fuel Reduction
- Evacuation Planning and Wildfire Preparedness
We are positioning Bear Valley to not only mitigate fire risk locally but also serve as a model for other high-risk alpine communities. Thank you for your continued support and participation as we work together to protect our community.
