BVRI Seeks Summer Community Manager

Are you a highly motivated high school senior or college student, or local resident with an evening job looking to pickup some daytime hours? Then BVRI’s Summer Community Manager position may be for you!

Help keep Bear Lake and our two beaches safe, clean, and fun for our members and their guests, while building your résumé and enjoying the beautiful scenery and great weather. You’re a reliable self-starter, proactively finding ways to maintain and improve the small and large beach areas. You’re an engaging, confident individual, ready to welcome visitors and inform them of the rules regarding members-only access, safety, and dogs.* You’re community minded, checking shared recreational equipment in and out, and assisting with the planning and production of the annual picnic.

ABOUT THE SUMMER COMMUNITY MANAGER POSITION

Pay, Schedule and Duration

  • Rate of pay: $18/hour 
  • Four-month part time paid position (June 1st – September 29th)
  • Hours per week: between 20-25
    • Required Thursday – Sunday:  10 am – 3 pm
    • Flexible/possible if desired: 2 hours at beach on Mondays, plus 2 hours per week at home doing computer tasks (weekly report, picnic planning), additional hours as needed for picnic and extra projects
  • Monthly reimbursement of cell phone: $50/mo

Job Requirements: Must Have and Nice to Have

Must Have

  • The ability to proactively see ways to keep the lake, beaches and residents and guests safe and engaged while spending recreational time in and around the lake
  • A cell phone that has reliable coverage at the lake, carried with you at all times
  • Computer skills, proficiency with using Google Sheets and Docs 
  • A driver’s license and a vehicle available to you to remove trash from the beach and surrounding lake area throughout the summer

Nice to Have

  • A laptop or desktop computer for filing your reports and doing other administrative tasks
  • Basic graphic design skills for making flyers and signs
  • Lifeguard and/or EMT certification 
  • Event planning experience to support the annual BVRI picnic committee
  • Basic maintenance and handyman skills for projects such as painting, sign installation, minor stairway and retaining wall repairs skills and/or skills to coordinate a local resource to handle occasional beach and lake  maintenance

Responsibilities of the role

Daily engagement at the beaches and lake, which includes:

  • Greeting all beachgoers, visitors, and fishermen
  • Being an available resource at the visible beach check in area
  • Checking BVRI membership for everyone
  • Providing guidance to non-member residents on becoming members to enjoy access to the beaches and lake
  • Reminding all guests that no dogs are allowed in Bear Lake or on the beaches even if leashed
  • Making available the Bear Valley Cheat Sheet at check in for anyone that inquires and wants to learn more about BV
  • Providing access to recreational activities: volleyball, cornhole boards and spike ball equipment
  • Making sure all recreational games and balls are locked and stored each night
  • Properly engaging or reporting any inappropriate behavior and/or safety issues

Daily maintenance of the lake and each beach, which includes:

  • Walking around the full lake every day to check for hazards and site any violations
  • Raking the sand where there has been high utilization on the beaches – both large and small
  • Checking garbage cans and recycle bins for proper use – large and small
  • Disposing garbage and recyclables at the community dumpsters after weekends and as needed throughout the week
  • Lightly cleaning portable toilets as needed
  • Overseeing and maintaining the walking trails – making sure they are free of trash or any other debris that may be impacting a clear trail
  • When needed, contact someone if the trail is impeded 

Additional Responsibilities via Summer Projects:

  • Providing weekly reports to your BVRI manager about your activities and observations 
  • Assisting the BVRI volunteer picnic planning committee before, during and after the event. (The committee will meet with you and discuss which activities you will be responsible for.)
  • Assisting with the clean up of any tree removal (proper supervision provided by the service provider, example Jay’s Trees
  • Suggesting necessary supplies or additional equipment, receive BVRI board approval to purchase such items, and submit receipts for reimbursement
  • Creating an onboarding playbook/manual for the Summer Community Manager role in collaboration with a BVRI board member

Any additional duties that are assigned by the BVRI Board throughout the summer.
